Saturday, November 7, 2026 is now the fullest day on Lufkin's fall calendar. Most of it is free. The Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber's calendar for that one date lists four events: the Hospice in the Pines Memorial Walk, Lufkin Creative's Heritage Festival, the Joe W. Elliott House Auto Show, and Lufkin's Bistro. Add a community tree planting, a farmers market, and a free Johnny Cash tribute at Angelina College, and the day runs from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Bistro is the only part you can't get into anymore. The Memorial Walk, the Heritage Festival, the auto show for spectators, and the evening Johnny Cash show are all free. So the real planning question is which group you're in. If you already bought a Bistro ticket for October 3, you're set. Everyone else has a full day open and a different plan for the evening.
A Weather Call in Late September Built This Day
Bistro was never supposed to be on November 7. In July, Visit Lufkin announced the 2026 event for Saturday, October 3. By the end of September, the organizers had moved it five weeks later, to November 7.
Karena Sotela, Visit Lufkin's marketing and social media specialist, told the Lufkin Daily News the call came down to ongoing weather uncertainty and how much advance preparation the event needs. Bistro takes several days of setup before anyone sits down: equipment placement, restaurant prep, sponsor logistics, volunteer planning, and street-level operations downtown.
"Because Bistro requires a significant amount of setup before event day, we wanted to make this decision early and responsibly." Tara Hendrix, director of Visit Lufkin
Tickets and reserved tables bought for October 3 carry over to the new date. Ticket holders don't need to do anything. One caution: the City of Lufkin's October calendar still shows Bistro on October 3, and that entry is out of date. Visit Lufkin and the Chamber both list November 7.

The Morning Starts Outdoors
The two earliest events are both for volunteers or participants, not spectators. The Hospice in the Pines Memorial Walk opens registration at 8:30 a.m., steps off at 9, and wraps up by 11. It starts at the Joe W. Elliott House on Gene Samford Drive and is free.
At the same hour, Angelina Beautiful/Clean is running its Reforest Lufkin community planting on Kit McConnico Drive from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteer signup is open now. The planting is the second half of a two-day effort. On Friday, November 6, the group gives away free seedlings from 9 a.m. to noon, or until they run out, in the Lowe's parking lot at 3502 S. Medford Drive. If you want a tree for your own yard, Friday morning is the time to go. Saturday is for planting on public ground.
The City's calendar also shows a Freedom Farmer's & Artisan's Market at 9 a.m. that Saturday. The entry doesn't name a venue yet.
From 10 to 3, the Day Splits Between Downtown and Timberland
At 10 a.m., the day moves to two places, and both run until 3.
Downtown, Lufkin Creative's Heritage Festival takes over South Cotton Square. This year's theme is "Bites & Beats: A Celebration of Heritage Around the World." The plan includes food, art, traditions, live entertainment, hands-on activities, and things for kids. Admission is free. It's one of Lufkin Creative's annual events. Performers haven't been announced yet. Vendor applications are still open to food trucks, artists and makers, businesses, nonprofits, and community groups, and the organizer says more entertainment details are coming.
On North Timberland, the Joe W. Elliott House Auto Show sets up on the Dollar Tree side of Ray's Drive In at 420 N. Timberland. Cars register from 10 to 11 a.m., judging starts at 11, and awards go out at 2. Entering a car costs $25. Watching is free.
The same name shows up twice before lunch. The memorial walk starts at the Joe W. Elliott House, and the auto show raises money for the Joe W. Elliott House and Hospice in the Pines. If you walk at 9 and then head to Ray's for the awards at 2, you've backed the same local cause at two events.
At 6 O'Clock, Your Plan Depends on Whether You Have a Ticket
Bistro runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on S. First Street downtown, with Brookshire Brothers as presenting sponsor. Reserved tables of eight and general admission are both sold out, and the checkout page is closed.
If you have a ticket, here's what to know before you go:
- Check in at an official Bistro entry point to get your wristband and tasting glass. Only guests wearing the wristband can take part in the food and drink tastings.
- Bring your ticket confirmation and a valid ID. The event is 21+, and there are no refunds.
- General admission doesn't come with a reserved table. A limited number of tables and chairs are available first come, first served.
- Small tabletop decor is fine at reserved tables. Leave candles, open flames, and anything that could blow away at home.
- People's Choice is the band for the night.
As of now, Visit Lufkin lists 11 restaurant and food partners serving sample-size portions: Cafe Del Rio, Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen, Danny's Taqueria, Deep Dish Divas, Grandough Baking & Catering Co., Ira's Salsa, Outback Steakhouse, Roma Italian Bistro, Skyline Burrito Bowls, Texas Roadhouse, and Tsubaki. More may be added as they confirm. Visit Lufkin describes the tasting as a way to find "the restaurants you will want to visit again." Without a ticket, you can still visit that list one restaurant at a time on any other night.
If you don't have a ticket, Saturday night still has a free option farther south on the same street. Angelina College is staging Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash at 7 p.m. in Temple Theater, in the ACA Building. Saturday is the last of three nights, November 5 through 7, and admission is free. The college's address is 3500 S. First St. Downtown Bistro and the campus show are both on First Street, about an hour apart in start time, and each one serves a different set of people that night.
The Fall Calendar Around It
November 7 is the busiest Saturday, but the dates around it are worth putting on your calendar now:
- October 17 to 31: The Texas Forestry Museum's free Halloween Trail, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1905 Atkinson Drive.
- October 30: Visit Lufkin's free Boo Bash on the Plaza, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center Plaza, 601 N. Second St.
- November 10: Angelina Beautiful/Clean's free Shred Day, 9 a.m. to noon, in the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber parking lot.
- November 14: Angelina Arts Alliance presents Shenandoah in concert at 7:30 p.m. in Temple Theater.
- November 28: The Texas Forestry Museum's Santa Claus Express, 6 to 7:30 p.m., at 1905 Atkinson Drive.
Moving Bistro also left Saturday, October 3, without the downtown night it had held since July. That's a small change, but it shifted the busiest weekend of the season five weeks later, into November.
I've lived around these East Texas calendars my whole life, and I still have to check them twice when a date moves like this one did.
